A note from Tapan
“I’ve been here 4–5 times — and every time feels slightly different. Darjeeling is familiar, but Lamahatta is where I go when I want silence.”
What I experienced
Darjeeling is one of those places that never feels new — yet never feels boring. I’ve been here 4–5 times, and every visit has been different.
The first time, I did all the usual things — Mall Road, cafés, viewpoints. But over time, I started slowing down, exploring less crowded corners.
That’s how I found Lamahatta. Just 40–45 minutes away, but completely different. No crowd, just pine trees, prayer flags, and silence.
Now whenever I come here, I split my time — a little bit of Darjeeling’s energy, and a little bit of Lamahatta’s calm.
It’s not about ticking places anymore — it’s about how the place makes you feel. And this one keeps pulling me back.

Local tips
Things I'd tell a friend before they go.
- Use NBSTC bus (₹105) — cheapest and reliable option.
- Stay near Mall Road for easy access.
- Visit Lamahatta early morning for best experience.
- Carry light jacket — weather changes quickly.
- Avoid peak crowd weekends if possible.
- Must try: Momos, Thukpa, and Darjeeling tea at local cafés — simple places often taste better than fancy ones.
- Underrated: Walk towards Lamahatta eco park trails or explore quiet roads beyond main market — less crowd, better views.
